Assistant Principal

Years 7 & 8

Shane Mathison first began working at Ballarat High School in 1996. He has worked tirelessly, committing to many students and families from that day on. Shane first started as a PE teacher and progressed into an expert teacher contributing to many leadership roles and responsibilities across the school.

In 2015 Shane was promoted to the Principal class as the Assistant Principal Years 7 to 9 and this year as Assistant Principal Years 7 & 8 plus leading the school’s Wellbeing strategies and programs.

At the end of this term Shane will be going on leave, travelling with his family and we wish them all the best for their family adventure.

At the start of Term 4 Melissa Pompe will be taking over the role of Assistant Principal Years 7 & 8 and whole school Wellbeing Leader. Melissa first joined us at Ballarat High School in 2016 as an experienced teacher and promoted into the Mathematics Learning Specialist role in 2018. In 2020 Melissa was promoted to become the Leading Teacher Curriculum, managing what students learnt over the complex two years of the pandemic, lockdowns, and remote learning. In 2021 Melissa was also responsible for Assistant Principal duties focused on staff development.

We look forward to Melissa’s contribution to the School’s Executive Leadership team.
