Hello, from our students and teachers.

News from Room 7, Grade 1/2 B (Ms. Tracey Burton)

In Literacy we have been learning all about Information Texts:- these are texts that have factual information and the author's purpose is to inform. Non-fiction books have key features such as the table of contents, glossary and index. Photos are also a special feature, as well as diagrams to help you understand information further.

Our purpose was not only to read for information, but to take notes of the main idea so we can then write our own Information Reports on a topic in  which we are really interested in.  We learnt how to do some 'note-taking' as well as Googling for 'Fun Facts.'  We also had to choose the various sub-headings for our topic.  We are still writing our first drafts, but eventually we will all complete a poster each.  Here are some of our posters  so far.

In Numeracy we have been learning about multiplication.  This is where we put objects into equal groups.  We used our skip counting skills of counting by 2's, 5's and 10's to help us. We learnt that you can use arrays, which is read in rows.

Such as 2 groups of five:    XXXXX

       2 x 5 =10                           XXXXX

Here are some of the activities in which we sorted objects into equal groups.
