Dunhelen

Ms Jacquelyne Armstrong

Year 7 Social

Last week the Year 7’s enjoyed their first Dunhelen Social. Students rocked out to the tunes from our resident DJ, Mr Lawless, won prizes and raised a lot of money for the Royal Children’s Hospital. A special thank you to Mr Eleftheriou and the Year 7 Homeroom teachers for all their hard work to ensure a great night for everyone.

Australians at War Service

Our Dunhelen Captains had the pleasure of experiencing the ‘Australians at War’ service held at the Shrine of Remembrance. Zakea J represented the College and read about the Battle of the Coral Sea from a soldier’s perspective. We are very proud of his contribution to the event as he spoke eloquently.

Dunhelen Assembly Presentations

This term the Dunhelen Captains have been presenting each week at Assembly a short but powerful presentation with a spotlight on positivity. The students came up with their individual focus which covered Growth Mindset, Healthy Lifestyle, Being a Good Person, Patience, and Empathy. Their idea was to emphasise, teach and just remind their peers about the power of being positive.

During this week's Assembly and Chapel service we enjoyed two live performances. Vox Pop performed an uplifting, energetic and exciting version of ‘Oh Happy Day’ led by some very talented Brookhill students and including our upcoming Dunhelen stars.

This was followed by Pierre S who performed his self composed piece, ‘Maybe’. Pierre has been developing his idea all year and last week it was ready for public viewing.  Pierre is an exceptionally talented pianist who wowed the audience.

Leadership Positions in 2023

At the first Assembly for Term 4, students will be asked to think about captaincy positions for next year. We will be calling for nominations very early in the term. The roles of School, Sports, Performing Arts, Community Service, Sustainability and House Captains will be advertised. Please speak to your child about nominating themselves if they are interested in pursuing a leadership position in 2023. They could, perhaps, spend some time over the break thinking about what role they would like and what ideas they could bring to the role.

We have one term left for 2022 and as usual it will be a very busy one. Students should be encouraged to rest and enjoy their break, but also think about ways that they can further improve their work and contribution to the College for the last term of the year.

Wishing all students and their families a safe and relaxing term break.
