Performing Arts
The last two weeks have been very busy in Performing Arts. Last Tuesday we held the Galway Theatre Day at the College where two other schools joined us for workshops led by industry professionals. The Year 9 & 10 Drama students had the opportunity to learn about stage makeup and special effects, prop building using simple materials and creating something spectacular out of them, and participated in an acting workshop, which explored motivation and intention behind creating a character.
That night, at The Brunswick Ballroom, our VET Music students had the opportunity to perform their final pieces, both ensembles and solos, at Gig Night. Led by Mr Impey and Ms McCarthy, the VET Music students got a taste of what it’s like to hold a gig in the industry, with family and friends attending the casual, stunningly performed music affair. The evening was an absolute standout. Well done to these students.
Last Thursday the Year 12 Theatre Studies class performed their monologues to a mock group of assessors and small audience to get some feedback before they refine their performances for their exam in a few weeks. The students demonstrated that they have approached their monologues with extensive research and significant rehearsal. Good luck to this class as they continue to develop their monologues in their final weeks of VCE Theatre Studies.
Our Year 10 Media class had a filming incursion last Friday, where they had the opportunity to shoot their films in preparation for their screening. Using the genre of ‘horror’, these films certainly look like they are going to be spooky. We look forward to seeing them once edited.
The showstopper was of course the Years 3-4 and Years 5-6 Cumberland Concerts, We Belong! What amazing shows! The students performed a class performance, some of them a triple threat- singing, dancing and acting! They all got together at the very end to perform a big finale where they truly embodied the spirit of belonging together. Thank you so much Ms McCarthy and the PA Team for their hard work and dedication to making these performances possible.
