Hume Council - Citizen Science at Aitken College
A small group of Year 9 students were recently introduced to Citizen Science as part of their Year 9 Service Project, a program led by Melissa Doherty (Urban Biodiversity Officer) of the Hume City Council. The main aim of Citizen Science is to contribute to more positive environmental/biodiversity outcomes and foster a healthy and environmentally engaged communities.
Citizen Science works by involving people in the local community helping to collect important data that scientists don’t have the budget, time or scope to collect by themselves. This data is then used to get a better understanding of the occurrence and distribution of species which is crucial for effective management and biodiversity conservation.
