Go Girl - A Tech Conference for Young Girls

The Year 5 and 6 girls were very fortunate to have an opportunity to attend the 2022 Go For IT  Conference at Deakin University in Burwood last Thursday. The day is a one-day event with a focus on  inspiring students with fantastic role models who showcase the technology of the future.  Alice and Aisha have provided their insights below.

Year 6 - Alice G: My favourite thing was the tradeshow. We went around and looked at different STEM stuff like 3D printing, showbags and there was a robot that followed people around. We participated in lectures about what people do in their career, STEM-wise. One of the ladies, Louisa, is a mechanical engineer and she talked about how she created a train.

Year 5 - Aisha: The good thing about it was the aim of it - for more women to be in the STEM area. I liked the lectures, I think they were interesting. Louisa and Serena are engineers and they spoke to us about their jobs, the positives and the negatives. There were a lot of great role models there. I liked the other activity where we had to highlight our strengths.

A big congratulations to Maria H who won the door prize of a new Apple Watch.

News from 3/4

Students in Year 3/4 have recently focused in Maths on the ‘Measurement and Geometry’ topic of 3D objects. They had particular fun making their 3D objects using toothpicks and clay. Students had to identify how many faces, edges and vertices their 3D object had.

Junior Rocker's Music School is at your school now. Our mission is to help young primary school students begin their musical journey and have fun while doing it. At Junior Rockers we believe a great music program offers an engaging contemporary repertoire that students recognise and relate to, while also building their technical musical abilities. Our passionate teachers guide students through technical exercises that build their ability on the instrument and instruct them on music theory to create an understanding of the foundations of music.
