Australian History Competition Awards 2022

History students from Years 7 and 10 participated in the annual Australian History Competition in June this year. Despite experiencing some disruption in recent years due to COVID, student participation at Endeavour has remained strong. Participants had to complete fifty challenging multiple-choice questions in 45 minutes. The questions addressed historical knowledge by utilising source analysis skills and were graded from easy to difficult.

Participation in this competition is voluntary. Twenty-two Year 10 students chose to be involved, as did thirty-nine Year 7s.

I am incredibly pleased to report that half of the participants achieved highly in the competition and received the following awards:

I am also delighted to announce that one of our Year 10 entrants has been named as a Year 10 South Australian State Champion for 2022. Congratulations to Gemma Mann for attaining this honour. She will receive a specially engraved medallion to commemorate her wonderful achievement.

The involvement of so many participants in the AHC this year reflects the excellent work being done by our teaching staff to enthuse students in their studies of History and demonstrates that they are progressing strongly in building their historical skills and knowledge.

Congratulations to the students who achieved highly in the AHC this year. They were recognised for their success at a recent whole school assembly. All other entrants received Participation certificates via their Care Groups.

We look forward to our continued involvement in this worthwhile competition in 2023.

Sports Corner:

Stephanie Hansen

Congratulations to Stephanie Hansen (Year 11) who represented South Australia at the National School Sport Australia Championships in Brisbane during Week 4 this term.

She swam two finals and had five top 10 finishes. Her highlight of the competition was  securing a personal best in the 400m Individual Medley to finish 5th. Steph said she had a fantastic time and the South Australian team had a great team spirit and did really well despite small numbers. Swimmers from all states enjoyed a fantastic excursion to Dreamworld, where they listened to an educational talk about tigers before having some fun on the rides.

Great achievement Steph!

Year 7/8 Girls Netball

On Thursday 25th August, thirty Year 7/8 girls represented the College in three teams at the SACSA Netball Carnival. The day was rainy which made for some slippery and intense game play. All three teams played well with a mixture of wins and losses throughout the day, including some tough matches with only 1 goal in it. The students should be commended for their persistence with the weather and difficult games.

Year 9/10 Girls Netball

The sun was shining and the skies turned blue for the Year 9 and 10 students who competed in an enjoyable day of netball on Friday 26th August. Outstanding skill, teamwork, fitness and comradery were demonstrated by all players throughout the day. Endeavour Gold finished 3rd and Endeavour Silver came 7th out of 13 teams. A special thank you goes to our senior student coaches (Madi Clark, Kloe Trotter and Ella Bussenschutt) who gave up their lunchtimes to train the girls, and on the day of the carnival demonstrated leadership and tough decision making skills.

Year 9/10 Boys Netball

Two teams participated in the Year 9/10 Boys Netball SACSA Netball Carnival recently. The boys had high hopes for the day and played with determination and energy. The results over the day were mixed with some outstanding passages of play and exciting wins, as well as some disappointing losses. They were competitive with all teams, with special mention to Endeavour Gold who lost narrowly to the eventual winners, Temple by only 3 goals in the minor round. Both teams were gracious in defeat and humble in victory. They showed respect to their opposition and great camaraderie and teamwork amongst each other. They should feel proud for how well they played and showed many of the Endeavour Way values! The final results saw the teams play off against each other, finishing 7th and 8th overall. We look forward to seeing these boys compete again in future years.
