Out and About

World of Maths

This week, Year 7s were treated to interactive games and real-life problem solving activities from World of Maths. Students used their collaborative and creative thinking skills to solve each station, reinforcing math concepts learnt in the classroom. It was great to see all students participating, engaged, and most importantly having fun with math.

Debating

On Thursday night 25th of August, we saw three Year 8 teams argue 'we should adopt Finland’s proportional fines for traffic infringements.' All three teams agreed with the statement and spent many weeks researching and learning this rather unique topic for the last round before finals.

Round 5 saw teams Blue and Red lose and Orange win. Team Orange was within a chance of getting into the top 8 teams and into the finals but by the time the team rankings were finalized late Thursday night, they missed out by 1 point! (439 points vs 440 points needed to get into the finals).

Despite this, all three teams should be congratulated for their efforts as they have worked incredibly hard over the year and have grown in many skills such as confidence, critical thinking and thinking under pressure.

The following students worked tirelessly in debating in 2022:

  • Orange - Kaliese McIlvena
    • Olivia Vasilev
    • Rachel Ratsch
    • Charlotte Dahlenburg
    • Madison Taylor
  • Red - Anthony Bonini
    • Jessie Roberts
    • Asher Harten
    • Eleni Dafov
    • Kaleb Wilkins
  • Blue - Mark Slaven
    • Cobey Davis
    • Monique Beattie
    • Alex Fechner

The debating staff looks forward to celebrating the success of these students in the near future. Debating is now alive and thriving at the College. In the coming weeks, planning for the 2023 teams is set to begin.
