LEADING TEACHER'S REPORT

Shirley Mangiameli

Echuca East Primary School have a host of activities planned to celebrate books and Australian children's authors and illustrators next week, 20-26th August, for Bookweek 2022.

The theme this year is “Dreaming with your eyes open.” The theme is about stepping into your own story, listening to Country as the first storyteller and learning from friends who help you along the way.

It is a great time to have fun and highlight the importance of reading.

Some of the exciting activities at EEPS include:

Decorated Doorways

Each class or double classroom have decorated their classroom doorways. These colourful displays showcase a shortlisted book from the Children’s Book Council of Australia’s Book of the Year Awards.

Embedded in these displays is a silhouette of a particular character from their book. This featured silhouette will be part of the scavenger hunt students will complete in during the week finding the characters and matching them to the correct book. If students complete the sheet and fill in their name and class, they will go in the draw for their chance to win a prize. (One prize per level available).

Where’s Wally Hunt

Wally has gone missing! Students will go on an adventure to find 20 “Wallys” in numerous locations around the school. The locations will reveal letters and/or numbers to help solve the mystery of the secret sentence.

(If students complete the sheet and fill out their name and grade and hand it in to their teacher, prizes will be up for grabs- one for junior school and one for senior school).

Buddy Reading

Students will share their own book of the year entry with other students from other levels across the school. They will have the opportunity to listen to each other read their books and admire each other’s detailed illustrations.
