Term 3 Week 9

MACSSIS: Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools School Improvement Survey

MACSSIS is a low impact, high return set of tools for creating, collecting, analysing, interpreting and using data to inform Catholic school improvement. MACSSIS produces perception data. This data tells us about what different people in a school community think and feel about their learning environment.

The surveys have been designed in alignment with Horizons of Hope: Vision and Context and the School Improvement Framework (SIF) Rubric capabilities, and gather data from:

  • Students in Years 4–12
  • Families
  • Teachers and non-teaching staff.

Survey questions cover several domains, which vary across the student, family and staff datasets.

As part of compliance with regulatory guidelines, schools are expected to engage with, and gather feedback from, their communities as part of their school improvement cycle. Schools are encouraged to view MACSSIS as a positive opportunity for gathering feedback and engaging communities in ongoing school improvement efforts.

At OLHC 80 families (randomly chosen) have been provided with a link and a PIN to access and respond to the survey.  I would encourage all families who received the survey to participate.  Your feedback is valuable as it forms part of data for now but also allows us to see trends over time.  Eighty is the maximum number of surveys a school can utilise.  If you are unsure if you received a survey via email or have deleted the email, please contact our office who can provide you with your family PIN.  The survey closes on September 16.

Year 5/6 Camp

This week (Monday to Wednesday) our Year 5/6 students headed to The Briars in Mt Martha for their adventure camp.  There were a range of challenging and fun activities including the giant swing, flying fox, commando course, low ropes course, crate stacking, archery and lots more.  Upon visiting for the day on Tuesday, I was impressed to see how our students and staff enthusiastically engaged in the activities. Many activities created opportunities for students to extend themselves as well as encourage each other and work together as a team.

There were many excited and content students and staff who returned on Wednesday.  We look forward to seeing the many photos of camp, and reading and hearing of their experience. Well done and thanks to the Year 5/6 teachers and other staff who helped plan, organise and contribute to the success of camp.

2023 Enrolments

We are now organising communications with families joining us in 2023.  If you have a child who is starting Prep in 2023 and haven’t yet enrolled them, please contact our office asap.  Please also mention to your neighbours and friends that have children of that age to contact us if they are looking for a place in the Foundation year for 2023.

Father's Day Liturgy

Thank you all so much for the photos for the Father's day liturgy. The children loved seeing photos of the wonderful fathers, grandfathers and significant figures in their lives. See below for this year's liturgy presentation!

Welcoming Ruby Isla Ashworth

Congratulations to Emily Ashworth (Year 3/4A teacher) and Cam on the arrival of Ruby. Born 29/08/22.

Next Week

Next week is the last week of school for Term 3. I would like to say thank you to all families for their support and resilience during a term where there were often interruptions due to illness across many levels.

We were able to come together and celebrate 100 Days of Prep, enjoy the Book Week Parade, attend the Book Fair, gather to recognise Father’s Day, begin our Confirmation preparations, learn from a variety of incursions and a lot more.

To finish the term we will have Footy Fun Day on Friday, where students are encouraged to wear their favourite football team colours.  Students will have the opportunity to participate in some footy related activities, enjoy a hot dog and finish the term with a fun all school event.  More details will be circulated directly to families in the coming days.

Kind Regards,

Patrick
