Performing Arts 2022
I welcome you all to the wonderful program the Performing Arts Department will showcase in 2022. My name is Elise Zijai and I’m delighted to introduce myself as the Head of Performing Arts. I have worked in schools and youth theatre delivering invigorating and creative programs and performance and I look forward to continuing this journey at Aitken. I have been an English teacher here since 2020, and I am so excited to be joining the talented Performing Arts team. Watch this space for all Drama, Music and Media information and events. We are eager to get live audiences back in the space to share in the joy and proud moments that our students will accomplish this year. I would like to welcome Ms Ebony McCarthy to the Music team and Ms Donna Rowe-Campbell to Primary Performing Arts. We will be welcoming additional Instrumental Music staff to our College in the next newsletter. Our Musical auditions are about to begin, Songsters will be up and running in less than two weeks and our Performing Arts Captains are soon to be busy bees organising the Captains Concert. This year We Will be sure to Rock You.
College Musical - We Will Rock You
We had an amazing turn out of excited Year 6-12 students at last night’s musical information session. Auditions will be held this coming week with rehearsals commencing in two weeks. We Will Rock You is set 300 years into the future where rock music has been banned and the world is controlled by an evil Cyber-Dictator, The Killer Queen. Galileo and Scaramouche set out to find the hidden relics of rock and bring joy back to the world.
The show will be directed by Mr Michael Cooper, with Musical Direction from Ms Robyn Cole. We are also pleased to welcome Josh and Rhiannon from Rhiannon’s Performing Arts School as our choreographers for this year’s production.
We look forward to presenting this epic show to you from July 22.
Ms Elise Zijai
Head of Faculty – Performing Arts
