The Science Talent Search Show

About five month ago two of us entered a statewide competition to test our knowledge of “all things science” known as  The Science Talent Search Show. This year’s topic was “To the Moon”, which was wide open to interpretation. While there were endless possibilities, we eventually agreed on a poster on the colonisation of the moon, and the steps we would need to take. Over three months, we collectively gathered research and went through design after design until we finally created Destination Moon: The Future of Colonisation. In the end we were extremely proud of how the poster had turned out and couldn’t wait to share it with the world. So, though the results on how we went haven’t come in yet, we really enjoyed the experience and the process it took for us to do it. We highly encourage everyone to ask your science teacher about it next year as it was definitely a great learning and building experience that surprisingly taught us many new skills and gave us ideas for our futures.

Participating in the Science Talent Search was a great opportunity to express how much I love science and it was also the first time I had to present work created with a project partner to a panel of judges. The Science Talent Search is a competition for young scientists to show and display their work. In this years competition James and I went out to Monash Uni to use their scanning electron microscope to look at windowsill bugs in microscopically HD quality. We took photos of the process and the machine itself. We were only allowed to submit 6 photos so we had to chose the very best. Here are some of them:

All in all it was an interesting experience and we presented our work as s parade collage, Now are just waiting on the result.
