Swinburne University excursion

On Thursday July 25th a group of Year 10 students took part in the Swinburne University Tertiary Aspiration Program. During Pathways every Tuesday afternoon Year 10 students have the opportunity to explore a range of career options as they move toward VCE. This program was a good chance to get out of the classroom and see what life at university might be like.

Students travelled to Swinburne’s Wantirna campus to experience a series of activities that simulated a day in the life of a university student. From creative endeavours, - such as photography - to hands-on careers - such as horticulture - and more high-tech pursuits - such as robotics and programming - this day was a great opportunity for students to experience a range of different career options. For many students it opened up possibilities that they had never encountered before  and gave a new appreciation for the type of work people in those fields might do. For example, most students had never gotten their hands dirty and potted a plant before - and were fascinated by the workings of a commercial nursery! Horticulture was an unexpected hit but all subjects gave students a better sense of what their future might

 

hold. It was very pleasing to listen to the conversations on the bus on the way home about what types of careers students thought they would be suited to. Well done to all Year 10s who participated for representing the school very well.
