Grade 5/6 Maths Games day

On the 12th of December 2019, the grades five and sixes competed in the annual numeracy event of the year, Maths Games Day. They went head to head in four activities to win the grand prize and go home with the ultimate victory and a side prize of bragging rights.

The first activity was a problem solving worksheet with 25 questions to solve as a group.

The second activity was outdoor games where we got to do two activities, the bean bag toss and the second a water based relay.

The third activity was timed puzzles, where we got seven different shapes and a guide of example shapes. We had to use the shapes to make as many examples as possible.

The fourth and final activity was coding where we had to complete a course but we couldn't use the track to get our measurements right and we could not use a ruler.

Lots of people enjoyed different things such as, working with people you wouldn’t usually work with, the fact that the teachers had actually made maths fun and more. I am sure we can all agree that maths games day was a huge success. We would all like to say thanks to the teachers for organising it and congratulations to number 1, the group who won the grand prize.
