Principal's Report

Week 5 of Remote Learning

Selamat datang (Indonesian for Welcome) to another week of Remote Learning. At this stage I still have no new information on a return to school. Our kindergarten programs are running as normal with an additional cleaning and separate  entrances/exits in place. As soon as I am given news on any changes I will communicate through Sentral - please keep an eye out for updates via the Sentral Parent Portal feed and emails.

Parent Survey 2

Gathering feedback from our parent community is an important way for us to support each other during this challenging time. We were able to reflect on the feedback given in the previous survey to confirm we were on the right track and make changes to ensure we were supporting our students and families as best we can. Although remote learning will never be an ideal way of learning, nor will we get it right every time, we are committed to providing the best opportunities possible for our students. We would greatly appreciate your time again in completing the second parent survey reflecting in particular on the last two weeks of online learning.

Character Strengths

Last week we thought about gratitude and how we can help ourselves stay positive during these times, by thinking about what we can be grateful for.

This week I would like to put the spotlight on Character Strengths.

What are Character Strengths?

Your character strengths are the qualities that come most naturally to you. Every individual possesses all 24 character strengths in different degrees, giving each person a unique character profile. When you know your strengths, you can improve your life.

An activity that we do at school is Strength Spotting - looking at your family members what do you think are their top three Character Strengths? We have done this in class and with staff. It can be interesting to discover everyone strengths and celebrate each other for what we brig to situations. Do you have a strength that you could be using more?

Below is a link to the VIA Character Strengths survey - if you were interested in finding out your top strengths.

Assembly Week 4

Did anyone start a gratitude jar or box? This week assembly featured Miss Nelson speaking about gratitude. I hope everyone was able to celebrate Mother's Day in some way. We did a zoom chat with my father and all his grandchildren from various locations including a mining town in South Australia. It was actually a bit of fun, although my family are not good at taking it in turns to talk!

Big thanks to Tegan Kitteringham for all her editing and for staff for being so enthusiastic! Hope fully it brings a smile to everyone.

Prep Packs

Thank you to all the Prep families that came into the school to collect the new pack. I hope that you will be able to make good use of the activities and that students enjoyed opening them up and accessing the craft activity in time for Mother's Day. A big thank you to all of the FOundation teachers and our ES staff - it was a huge job to get all the work ready and then packaged up.

Year 6 Jumpers

All Year 6 students had a special delivery on Friday with their 2020 jumpers being delivered to their houses by their teachers and ES staff. I know they will have appreciated the home delivery and I'm so impressed with our Year 6 staff for rallying around to deliver and with Sue and Ally setting up the packages. A big thanks to Mrs Naismith who has helped us sort all the logistics as we prepared these new jumpers.
