Literacy Update

Learning and Creating through English
This term saw the relaunch of the Writing program in Years 5 & 6 and this was especially realised in consistent participation of the Warm Write sessions each fortnight. The children found these sessions to be engaging and low risk; they could focus on the creative aspects of writing and hone their editing skills, knowing that these sessions were for their writing pleasure and not for teacher assessment. The teachers have found these sessions to be positive writing experiences and we often find children don't want to stop once they start! The children who have chatted to their families about their ideas beforehand come into class brimming with ideas and eager to make a start. Thanks to those of you who have taken the time to talk to their children before a Warm Write.
This term has also cemented the process around personalised learning goals for children and this is particularly evident during reading conferences and group tasks. Children are becoming 'goal literate', showing an increased ability to set goals, prioritise activities to develop skills and review their progress with teachers at the end of the term.
