LET GO AND LET GOD

Dear Parents

One of the biggest challenges I have found as a parent is to let go and let God do His thing with my children, His way!

We often think we know what is best for our child and with all good intentions try to manipulate or control the situation, especially if our child is hurt or feels bad. We hate seeing our loved one go through awful things and naturally want to protect them.

It is so hard, but our children will actually grow more from difficult times (if handled well) and become more resilient, courageous, empathetic and compassionate. When we lean into God through difficult situations we become more like Him and grow to be a better person. Here is a great article from a reading in The Word for Today (date unknown):

Letting Go…

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.”

Proverbs 3:5 (NIV)

Letting go of someone you love and putting them into the hands of God can be one of the hardest things you’ll ever do.

As children bring their broken toys with tears for us to mend

I brought my broken dreams to God because He is my Friend.

But then instead of leaving Him in peace to work alone

I hung around and tried to help in ways that were my own.

At last I snatched them back and cried,

“How can You be so slow?”

My child, “He said”, “I waited but…

…you never did let go.”

To let go of someone doesn’t mean you stop caring; it just means you can’t do it for them.  It means you stop rescuing them, and allow the consequences to correct them and make them whole.  It means you choose neither to fix them, nor judge them; just to pray for them, and believe God to accomplish what you can’t.  Letting go also means facing your own selfishness and the need to adjust everything to your desires, and instead saying, ‘…not my will, but Yours be done.’  Luke 22:42 (NIV)

Thanks everyone for a great term!

Keep safe and have a wonderful term break.

God bless,

Catriona
