ACCIDENTS AND ACCIDENT COVER

Children will always have accidents.  As much as we try to prevent them, they are an unfortunate fact of life.

When the bills arrive it often comes as a nasty shock that some expenses may not be covered by Medicare or private medical insurance.  For example, did you know that if an ambulance is called for your child, that you, the parent must meet the expense?

Children’s Accident Insurance/ambulance cover policies are purchased by many parents as part of risk management for their families.

Please note the Department of Education and Training Victoria does not provide personal accident insurance or ambulance cover for students.

Parents/guardians of students, who do not have student accident insurance/ambulance cover are responsible for paying the cost of medical treatment for injured students, including the cost of ambulance attendance/transport and any other transport costs.

The Department cannot advise parents/guardians on whether to purchase a student accident policy/ambulance cover, or which policy to purchase.  It is recommended that you seek assistance in this matter with an insurance broker or through commercial insurers.

SCHOOL NOTICES ............

PARENTS VISITING THE COLLEGE

Any parent/caregiver who is visiting the college MUST report to Reception. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES are parents allowed to go directly to a student’s classroom during class-time or wander round the college grounds at recess or lunchtime.

DRIVING ONTO THE COLLEGE GROUNDS

Please do not drive onto college grounds when visiting the school as there is very limited parking space. Of course there will be exceptions to this when you are picking up injured or sick students from the office during the school day. Then it is permitted to drive up to the office area for easier access.

If you have to drive into the grounds at any time, please observe the speed limit of 15KPH.  The speed limit sign is displayed at the second set of gates.

NO U-TURN

Please note :  It is illegal to make a U-turn in front of the college.  Kingston Council traffic officers and Police are often patrolling the front of the school and infringement notices can be issued for any driving offence including not stopping for red lights, travelling above the regulation 40KPH during specified hours and parking in non-approved areas.

Also, parents are not permitted to drop off or pick up students inside the school grounds before or after school. There are designated drop off zones in Bernard Street.

STUDENTS WHO ARE NOT WELL AT SCHOOL

Students who are feeling unwell should report to Reception before calling a parent to collect them.  If necessary, staff will call the parent/caregiver to collect the child.

STUDENT ATTENDANCE

Just a reminder – if your child is not going to attend school please call the college on 9555 5955 anytime after 8.15am or you can enter the absence details on COMPASS.  Use Compass parent code and password to enter the data.

If you intend picking up your child from school before the end of the day please send a note with your child either on the day or beforehand. The student should get the note signed by their co-ordinator before school. When the student leaves the classroom they should show the signed note to their teacher and then bring the note with them when they sign out at Reception.  Please note : Students will not be called over the PA during classtime.

Alternatively you can phone or email the school to let us know you will be collecting your student before the end of the day.  We can call the student over the PA during recess or lunchtime.

NAMING YOUR CHILD'S BELONGINGS

Any items that are found are put into lost property.  Julie  and her team of  Integration aides spend time every week in sorting the items in lost property.  Anything that is named is returned to the owner.  All other goods are kept for a while then sent to the local Op Shop.

It is most important, especially for new expensive pieces of uniform, that the student's name is written somewhere on the garment.
