Principal's Report

Welcome back to term two! I hope your break from routine was relaxing and rejuvenating.

Our Information Night on 30 April was extremely successful and attended by over 700 people. This was followed by Open Day when we welcomed approximately 900 people. Our students, as always, lead the organisation, public relations, tours and conversations. Many thanks to our Public Relations Captains, Isabella Rogers-Headicar, Lexie Dennis and Asha Robinson for all of the planning, thought, writing and preparation. Isabella, Lexie and Asha also lead the training for Junior Ambassadors (J.A.). We are so proud of every J.A.!

The amount of behind the scenes work to ensure a successful event is beyond measure. Our College Captains, Genevieve Cox, Meg Funston and Georgia Wolfe spoke movingly about each of their journeys from Years 7 to 12 and our Middle School Captains, Amelia Stroud and Jess Edbrooke charmed the audience as hosts. The Information Night concluded with three of our Year 7 students Charlie Todd, Nacinta Tu’uholoaki and Nandini Vyas providing information about learning, co-curricular programs, the Lyceum and camp. A parent perspective was given by Laura Dennis with humour and kindness.

Thank you to Brent Houghton, Ella McDonald, Shaunagh O’Connell, Bryony Sahlstrom, Jaymee Booth, Mella Pescos, Nancy Sandilands, Bec Ashman, our Domain Leaders, all teachers and office staff. Our high achieving State school was showcased authentically and professionally during our normal learning and working day.

The term has begun with many other activities, with thanks to:

  • Anne Corry  and Ellyce Calder For the Generations in Jazz festival http://www.generationsinjazz.com.au/, preparation and supervision all of next weekend,
  • Lenore Twist, Catie CAMERON-Martin and coaches for aerobics training and competitions,
  • Trevor Howlett and Ken Callegari for cadet camps and AAFC: ANZAC Day Parade Participation,
  • Carolina Trujillo, Emily Miller and Nia Holdenson for auspicing Lucy Vogel, Grace Dwyer, Sonia Li and Gen Coxour to the Rotary Model United Nations initiative,
  • Andrew Kovassy for leading our students in the College’s very successful State Schools’ Swimming  Finals campaign.

New York, New York and Los Angeles!

Our talented Arts and Design students have returned from New York and Los Angeles with deeper knowledge and understanding of many key areas of the arts. Many thanks to Roger Dunscombe and Lucy Chen for using part of their term break to support the students and their learning. Many thanks also to Harriet Turnbull who planned the trip along with Roger down to each meticulous detail.

Whilst in New York our former student Georgia Lazaro generously gave up her time to chat about working in the fashion industry in ‘the big apple’. Whilst in Los Angeles the students were lucky enough to meet former student Alex Henkel and her actor husband, Anthony LaPaglia, who spent over an hour with the girls discussing the entertainment industry.

Without the hard work and dedication of Roger, Lucy and Harriet this experience would not have been possible so sincere thanks to all.

Thank you for your support of our wonderful school and again, welcome back!

Kind regards,

Karen
