ACCA

Australian Centre for Contempory Art
On the 22nd of August, students from year 10, 11 and 12 Studio, Visual Arts and Art attended ACCA as part of their very exciting Go Project. The project is a special initiative for schools that are located 40 kilometres from the CBD and the purpose of the project is to help schools and students have better access to gallery spaces by providing free transportation and educational programs.
On the day, students had time at an ‘Artist Run Space’ near Flinders Street called Blindside, where they were lucky enough to see an exhibition in the process of being set up whilst also meeting the curator of the show.
They also had a visit to the infamous underground exhibition space ‘The Dirty Dozen’ which is located under Flinders Street station. And finally, they all spent time at ACCA itself, taking part in a gallery talk about the exhibition ‘Greater Together’ which explores various models of artistic collaboration.
Students also participated in becoming collaborative artists themselves by creating a sculpture made from clay and then working in a team to curate a small exhibition which they photographed using iPad’s. It was fantastic to see all of the students participate in the activities for the day and explore art spaces that they typically would not see.
Thank you to all the staff who attended the excursion and to the students for a great day out.
