What have the year 6’s been up to?
Written by the Grade 6 Literacy SIT leaders, Stevie and Ruby
The year 6’s have been learning how to make inferences from the cover of a book. By using the clues from the cover of the book Pony by R.J. Palacio, we were able to make inferences and predictions on what the book might be about. We compared the two different book covers of the same book and figured out which cover was more appealing to a younger audience.
In Math, we have been learning about prime and composite numbers and we have been comparing two different types. We figured out that composite numbers can be divided by three or more factors unlike prime numbers which can only be divided by one and itself. We also learnt about triangular and square numbers and some strategies to help us figure out if a number is square, triangular, composite or prime.
For the start of this term in writing we have been writing letters to our future selves.
We will be opening at the very end of year six after graduation and on the last day of school. It will be a very emotional experience. We have also been focusing on writing down our goals, challenges, hopes and improvements for 2023.
During Buddy sessions, we have been teaching our new Prep buddies about the school values: Kindness, Resilience and Respect. We drew pictures together, role played how to be respectful, and read stories about kindness. The preps did a fantastic job showing how to be Kind, Resilient and Respectful!
