Grade 1/2 Newsletter

On Tuesday, the Grade One/Twos created potions as a language experience for Writing this week. We created the potions in a cup, using food dye and ingredients that we found outside like leaves, sticks and sand. As we made our potions, we made a list of all the ingredients that we put in. Then we mixed them altogether. On Thursday, we used this experience to inspire narratives about what might happen if someone drank a potions. There were so many wonderful characters such as:

  • princesses
  • giant frogs
  • witches
  • a fisherman and a shark
  • scientists
  • werewolves
  • mice
  • mermaids
  • wizards
  • talking cats, … and beasts with purple spikes!

Some terrible AND terrific things happened to the characters who drank the medicine such as:

  • being caught in a storm
  • turning into a mouse
  • sleeping walking
  • turning into a red back spider
  • shrinking and eating pasta
  • turning into a dragon who flew to the moon
  • swimming to water holes
  • going super fast up into the sky like a rocket
  • turning into a smurf
  • … and gaining wings to fly.
  •
  • So many great imaginations!
