Hands On Learning

Thanks to a generous grant from NEWSBOYS, our Hands-On Learning team have been working on a project to make the College outdoor learning and eating spaces more pleasant and the tables more hygienic by deterring birds from nesting under the Library veranda, Mini-Barn and Big-Barn. Flying wooden birds have been created and hung, with more to follow.

The project covers the following four outcomes,

1.We will have a functional outdoor workspace for HOL students and staff to work on current and future projects that provides shade from the elements and seating to utilize during breaks.

2. We will have provided seating so drama/music classes can utilize the outdoor learning space fully.

3. Existing covered areas will have the addition of bird nesting deterrents, which will result in more hygienic undercover eating and learning spaces for all students and staff.

4. There will be a sensory walk around the outside of the Primary building to assist dysregulated students the opportunity to enjoy a safe outdoor sensory experience to allow them to re-focus and calm before entering the classroom again.

We look forward to continuing next year with another group of enthusiastic students.
