Busy Times

Well here we are, another year nearly finished. The last few weeks have been really busy with lots on for the students, things they haven’t been able to do since Covid hit in 2020.

Our year 10 students attended the Charlton Driving School which was a great learning experience for them as they had qualified instructors supervise their driving within the complex. They also had lots of instruction on safety and the hazards of driving.

We’ve had our Year 10 and 11s down at senior camp in Geelong which was a great experience for them leading into VCE/VM/VPC. Students visited university and business as well as had some fun on the trip. It’s a big part of setting them up for success with their final years of secondary education and letting them know what is out there.

I attended Student Leadership School at Gnurad Gundidj campus, Glenormiston last Friday 2nd, where I visited three of our Year 9s who are down there. While I was at the campus the students gave me a tour of the school and they also presented their CLP project which they’re looking to bring back to Edenhope. It’s a community project that will benefit Edenhope and district and is part of their Student Leadership School leadership development.

Over the last four days we’ve had our Advanced students competing in the great Victorian Bike Ride, which was three days of riding roughly 70 kilometres a day. This was led by Advance teacher Morgan Coventry and George Walker assisted.

Next Monday the 12th we have our Primary School Concert in the morning, 11.15am start.

Tuesday the 13th we have our State Wide Transition Day involving Kinder through to Year 6 (2023 year 7s).

Next Wednesday the 14th we have our Awards Night starting at 6:30pm at the town hall, with a supper provided after.

Staffing 2023

We welcome the following staff to Edenhope College for 2023 and say goodbye to a couple of staff members who are moving on to other teaching destinations.

Sarah Hinge joins us as our new 2/3/4 classroom teacher. Sarah will also run our Equestrian elective that Eddie Price ran this year and teach guitar instrumental. Sarah has taught recently at Frances Primary School and is a local Mundulla girl. Many of the primary school girls will be excited as Sarah had a bit to do with them with local sport. Sarah also hopes to start a lunchtime singing activity for interested students.

Ex-student Dave McLeish will run our Friday F -1 class, combining with Kim Thornton, who runs the class Monday to Thursday. He will also teach other specialist subjects within our primary. David has taught for the last 10 years in the Geelong district and more recently in Melbourne. David has led Primary Mathematics faculties and has also filled roles as acting assistant principal in his previous primary schools.

Another local Keiren Brennan will step into a PE/Health role. Keiren worked at the college many years ago and comes to us for three days a week and will continue to work at his current school Balmoral for the other two days. Keiren brings a wealth of experience to the PE department.

Ex-student Karla Cardnell is filling Eddie Price’s ES (Educational Support), maternity position while Eddie is off on leave starting her family.

Staff Leaving

We say goodbye to Alannah Pearson and George Walker who are leaving us for other destinations in 2023. Alannah is leaving us to move closer to her family at Warrnambool. She has been with us for a couple of years teaching the grade 3/4 class in 2021 and taught LOTE, VCAL Numeracy and Primary Mathematics and Science this year. George is  moving to Horsham where he has secured a position at St Brigids. We wish you both the best with you respective careers and thank you for your contribution to Edenhope College’s learning environment over the last two years.

Kat Close has left, Eddie Price and Sarah Burgess are leaving, all off on maternity leave having babies. We wish them well during this exciting time and look forward to meeting all the new additions!

We also say goodbye to Brian O’Leary who has been our chaplain for the last 14 years. Brian has been front and centre helping students and staff with wellbeing over that time and has been tireless in his efforts in this area. Thank you so much Brian for your efforts!

Edenhope Community Park Run

Just a message of support to announce Edenhope has it’s first Park Run around Lake Wallace tomorrow 10/12 at 8am. Just turn up at Henley Park before 8am and organisers will explain the event and then send you off, walking, running, pushing a pram, in a gopher, walking the dog. It’s a great social event.
