2023 Transition / Meet The Teacher And Grade

This Tuesday at 11.30am students will get the opportunity to meet and get to know their 2023 teacher and class. This is an important part of our Starting Right program and assists in a smooth transition to the next year level. This time will be spent developing relationships and preparing students for their first 2023 school day.

Families will be notified on Tuesday via Compass who their child's teacher is.

Semester 2 Reports

On Friday 16th December parents will receive their child's Semester 2 report via Compass.

  • When: Published at the end of Term 2 and the end of Term 4.
  • What: These are our formal school reports and are mandated for all schools in Victoria. They have:
    • Your child's attendance for the semester (Term 3 and 4)
    • A Victorian Curriculum page that shows you the standard that your child reached when teachers combined all information available to them (including formal assessments along with observations in class). Your child’s achievements are represented by a solid black dot. Each level listed on this page links to a matching grade level
    • A description of what has been taught in each subject
    • A personalised comment about your child.

Thank You To Our Parent / Community Volunteers

Medications in sickbay

If you have any medication in the school sickbay that you require over the holidays please collect from the school administration office before 1.30pm Tuesday 20th December. The office will be closed from 2pm Tuesday 20th December until Friday 27th January.

2023 Voluntary Contributions

Barwon Heads Primary School is looking forward to another great year of teaching and learning and would like to advise you of the voluntary parent (caregiver) contributions for 2023. Public schools are required to provide students with free instruction to fulfil the Victorian curriculum and we want to assure you that all parent contributions are voluntary.

Barwon Heads Primary School is a non-profit organisation. The difference between funds provided by the Department of Education and Training and those required for this school to operate to the high standard we expect, leaves a shortfall which our School Council attempts to raise through fundraising, and the voluntary financial contributions which are detailed in this document.

You will find a detailed summary on the COMPASS NEWS FEED of how your voluntary contribution will be used to enable a high standard of teaching and learning in 2023.

For further information on the Department’s Parent Payments Policy please see a one-page overview on page 10 or the below link.

New Prep Start date 2023

Dear Families of Prep students in 2023,

The Department of Education has recently mandated the school times for Prep students transitioning to Primary School. This has implications to our original planning and messaging for the beginning of next year.

Prep students in 2023 will now begin school on Tuesday the 31st January. Please note below the different times Prep students will attend school as part of the transition process.

Prep 2023:

  • Start date 31st January
  • Start time 8:55am
  • Finish time 2:30pm (First 2 weeks)
  • Wednesday's are Prep free days (First 5 weeks) These will be used to conduct the initial English Online Interview and Starting Right Interviews.

In week 3 the school day finish time will change to 3:15pm, with Wednesdays remaining Prep free until week 6 (Wednesday 8th March 2023).

We are excited to welcome our new Prep students in 2023.
