Rubbish Rebel Waste

Term 4 wrapping up

Our students have been hard at work finishing projects and creations toward the end of term. Our senior students have been building homopolar motors, a very complex electrical circuit, and have done a magnificent job with them. All groups were successful in making their copper wire spin off a battery and magnet.

Our Grade 1 students, and FL, experimented with dry ice rockets and cloud bubbles. They were thrilled watching the rockets explode into the sky and thought the cloud bubbles were magic! Huge thank you to Dr Chris Langendorf for his expertise and equipment to allow us to use these experiments, we had so much fun!

Grade 2 students have been busily building solar ovens to use in their melting chocolate experiments, let’s hope the weather is warmer for our final test next week. Students in Grade 3 and 4 are preparing to make ice cream using chemical change, the students have been learning about physical and chemical changes and we can’t wait to taste the success of our experiment this week.

Farewell from Miss Dunstan

It has been an incredible pleasure teaching at Somerville Primary, the students and community have embraced sustainable change and what an incredible difference you have all made to your school and lifestyles. I will miss all of the students here and hope you continue to make the difference you have been making for our future. Continue to create the ripples of change, together those ripples will make a huge wave of change. All the best x

Somerville PS recycling hub

We have so many ways to recycle your items from home here at SPS. Don’t forget to pop by our recycling station, just outside the Enviro room, to drop off your tablet blister packs (empty), plastic bread tags, socks, batteries, dental hygiene products and empty markers, pens and highlighters. You can also pick up a free book from our book box to take home.
