KSP Video Conference

On the 20 October the Year 7 members of the SJC participated in a video conference, along with many other primary schools. These included Beaumont Road, Lindfield East, Lindfield, Roseville, and Killara Public Schools. The topic of this conference was Staying Safe Online. Everyone had some amazing ideas that enlightened all of us greatly.

One idea that was mentioned a lot was securing passwords. Within the online world, passwords are one of the main ways that we secure our accounts and information. This means that if people know your password, they can do anything with your account, from impersonating you, stealing your details and taking your money.

Another suggestion that we came across, is that when we go online, it is important to talk to strangers, the main reason is because anyone can impersonate anyone or anything. Most of the time they are helpful, but on the other hand they might be on the internet to hurt you or insult you. This is why it is not wise to talk to strangers.

Finally, many people suggested to just be kind and use common sense. Being online can be actually not that dangerous if you just do the right thing. Don’t bully people, even if they started it. If you want your information to be protected, don’t tell people personal details. Remember that although you can’t see them, there is a real person with real feeling behind the screen, so don’t say anything that you wouldn’t say to their face

Overall, it was a great experience that enlightened us all about what do to online. So, we would like to thank Ms Dixon and Ms Zolezzi for organising this amazing event.
