Primary Student Leadership
On Tuesday 10 November, a group of nominated Grade 5 students gave their Primary leadership speech.
We are so proud of the students who have all done such an exemplary job as they delivered their nomination speeches with maturity and skill.
HCC is a school where leadership is more than just a title. All students will have opportunities to be servant leaders throughout their years at HCC and all are encouraged to use their 'influence' in positive ways, regardless of elections and 'titled' positions.
The selected students will be announced along with other awards during the Presentation Night event.

Please Enter Quietly During Year 12 Exams
The Year 12s have started their exams and will finish on Monday 30 November in the Community rooms (near the Gym). We particularly request parents to observe any cones and barriers that are placed up on the grass area out the front of the school, which denote that an exam is in action. It is critical for parents and children to quietly move off the school grounds at the end of the day if those barriers are in place to enable the students the best opportunity to concentrate and focus on their exams. Thank you in anticipation for your cooperation.
Australian Girls Choir Open Day
Look no further than the Australian Girls Choir (AGC) because we encourage, challenge and inspire girls as they learn to sing, dance and perform.
School-aged girls are invited to come along to our Virtual Open Day on Sunday 22 November to try our fun and inclusive classes and learn more about being part of the AGC! Please visit our website to register (please click) and attend our free Open Day.
Presentation Night Awards
The Presentation Nights are fast approaching, and we are busy preparing for two very special evenings for all the students. An important part of Presentation Night is the awarding of various prizes and awards, this year we will still be making presentations and there is even a couple of new categories to reflect the challenge 2020 has been for many of our students.
Each year we offer the HCC community the opportunity to sponsor a prize at Presentation Night at the cost of $30. Sponsor names are acknowledged in the Presentation Night program if they choose.
If you would like to sponsor an award/awards, please contact the College office on 8551 6650 or email us at office@hcc.vic.edu.au by Wednesday 2 December. Businesses are also welcomed to sponsor awards.
We look forward to celebrating with you all that the students have accomplished in 2020.

Safety in the College Car Park
We need to again remind all drivers to drive slowly and safely in the College car park – there is a 10km speed limit in operation. Please observe parking restrictions and the No Right Turn sign onto Kingston Road during drop off and pick up times.
Our shared responsibility is to care for the children in our community and driving and parking in a mindful manner ensures this.
Sun Smart in Term 4
As the weather begins to warm up, we ask that all students bring a labelled, reusable water bottle to school each day to ensure that they stay sufficiently hydrated. Please note due to COVID-19 precautions, all drinking taps have been switched off (however, students are still able to fill their water bottles). Students are permitted to take a water bottle into their classes with them.
Hats are to be worn by all students during recess and lunchtimes. SPF 30+ plus broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen should be applied daily before going outdoors.
Daily temperatures should not be used as a guide to when sun protection is needed. When the temperature is cool, it means there is less infrared radiation, but UV levels can still be high. Students are reminded to be extra cautious.
Year 7-11 Curriculum Day Tuesday 1 December
Please be advised that Tuesday 1 December is a student free Curriculum Day for all students in Year 7-11. Secondary staff will be on-site running some transition activities for Grade 6, preparing for 2021 and completing 2020 marking and reports. Thank you.
Recent Changes to Camps, Sports and Excursion Fund eligibility dates for 2020
We have advice from the Victorian Minister of Education that, in recognition of the impact of COVID-19 on schools and families, the Department of Education and Training has made several changes to the arrangements that apply to the Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund (CSEF) in 2020. These include:
- extending the eligibility date to Monday 5 October (from April)
- extending the closing date for applications to 27 November (from 24 July)
- reducing the payment made to newly eligible parents by 50 per cent
- increasing the range of costs to which CSEF funding can be allocated to include books, stationery and other voluntary school charges.
This means that families who have suffered a loss of income as a result of the economic downturn associated with the pandemic that have been issued a Health Care Card between 14 April and 5 October 2020 can now apply. Eligible families will receive funds credited against their FACTS account: $62.50 for each Primary student and $112.50 per Secondary student.
Please note: the number of eligible CSEF applications at our College determines a significant proportion of our Victorian Government recurrent funding. It is therefore extremely important that all families of eligible students submit an application prior to 25 November. This can make a big difference in the programs and facilities that the College can provide for your children.
If you have recently been issued a Health Care Card, please complete an application form accessed via this link (if you have not already done so):
https://www.education.vic.gov.au/Documents/about/programs/health/CSEF-Application-Form-2020.pdf
Please return completed forms by Wednesday 25 November to the College office or via email to heather.harrison@hcc.vic.edu.au along with a copy of your Health Care/Pension Card. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Heather Harrison via email at heather.harrison@hcc.vic.edu.au
