Clay Target Shooting

It’s been a busy couple of weeks for the Clay Target Shooting team during the beginning of Term 4. A large contingent of our shooters made the long journey to Minyip for the biggest Field and Game event of the year. It was evident that many benefited from some practice at the ground with many students and parents attending the public shoot on Sunday 20/10/19 prior to the school shoot on Monday 21/10/19.

Some excellent results were achieved on Monday competing against nearly 40 other schools and nearly 400 students. A big congratulations go to Sam O’Shannessy (Yr.12) for finishing in 2nd place in the Senior Boys’ Member Category shooting an outstanding 20/24. One of the most improved shooters for the season, Max Hausler (Yr. 8), managed to go one place better by taking out 1st in the Junior Boys’ Member Category, also shooting an outstanding 20/24. Well done to both boys on the great achievements.

On Monday the 28/10/19 a smaller group of 11 Middle Years shooters attended the last shoot of our season at the Warrnambool Gun Club. This is a great competition which allows novice and experienced shooters alike in Yr. 7-9 a chance to compete. This was perhaps the most successful day for the shooting team in recent years with College students claiming 1st place in 3 out the 4 categories. Fraser Diprose continued his excellent form and capped off a great season by winning the Experienced Male division shooting an impressive 22/24 targets. Libby Diprose followed in her brother’s footsteps by claiming 1st in the Novice Female division after winning a three-way shoot off. First year shooter Lachlan Veale demonstrated his high level of improvement this season by claiming 1st place in the Novice Male division. To add to these outstanding results, Rosie Dopheide claimed 2nd in the Novice Female division behind Libby and was involved in the shoot off for 1st place. Congratulations to all these shooters on achieving these excellent results.

Thanks to all the Clay Target Shooters for 2019 and to the parents also for their efforts in transport, coaching, spectating and organization. It has been a very successful and positive season with many outstanding results and a high level of improvement from those involved.
