Reception Curriculum News

HASS

This term, we will be looking at the History strand of the Australian Curriculum. Students will be focussing on ‘What is my history and how do I know?’. There are many big ideas that will be covered throughout the unit, some include:

* Understanding that everyone belongs to a family however these families, their structures and experiences may differ.

* How families are similar and different

* Life events happen in a sequence (order)

This unit will allow students to ask questions about the past, explore and compare a range of sources (including magazine, photos, drawings, books) and to add simple historical terms about the past and present to their expanding vocabularies!

The unit will encourage students to develop a personal understanding of who is in their family and how each of them are related.

Students will be engaging with their families and exploring their own family story. We would love it if you could talk to your child about their history and their family to get them thinking about their past!

Later on in the Semester we will be looking at Geography and focussing on the world around us.

We will look at the following questions-

What are places like?

What makes a place special?

How can we look after the places we live in?

Through our studies in Geography students will explore the place they live in and belong to, learn to observe and describe its features, and why it is important to them. They will explore their own special places, how they feel about them, what makes them special, and how they can care for them.

The ARTS

During term 3 and 4 our focus in the Arts will be music, dance and ICT/design and technology. This is a great oppertunity for students to express themselves creatively, learn new skills and work with another reception teacher. We cannot wait to show off our new learning.
