The Peppercorns - 10s & 11s

Plastic not so fantastic?

What an eventful term it has been! The 10s & 11s have been busy plugging away with our inquiry unit on Plastics.  We have been exploring the lines of inquiry both individually and as a group.  Various activities have been implemented throughout the course of this inquiry unit to encompass other subjects including Literacy, Numeracy, and Science.  For example, students worked in small groups to conduct a school rubbish audit.  Each group’s data was collated and then tallied as a class.  The class data was then graphed by each student manually and learning was extended by conducting a workshop on how to use Google Spreadsheets to graph electronically.

Students worked on individual projects which included writing an information report on the issue of plastic pollution and creating a tangible piece to support their research and understanding.  Each student’s personal connection with the inquiry is reflected in their work.  They have uploaded their project onto Seesaw, so log-on check them out!

The group project has challenged students to put their engineering caps on to design a product or device geared towards combating the issue of plastic pollution.  Their work is looking great and the students are excited to share their final pieces with the class later this week.  This will also provide the students with an opportunity to evaluate and reflect on each other’s work as well as their own.

The excursion to the Marine and Freshwater Discovery Centre on Wednesday will be a lovely way to finish off the inquiry.  It will be a fun day out.

Thank you for an awesome Term 1 and happy holidays.
