This year's exhibition of our most senior artists’ final work included stoneware, sculpture, photography, drawing, painting and mixed media; as a collection it was diverse, interesting, personal, profound, outstanding! The artists’ ingenuity and creativity in completing this work is a credit to their passion and dedication.

Students worked hard investigating ideas and developing their works across the year and interpreted these in diverse ways ranging from life-sized copper sculptures exploring the theme of borders and boundaries, to works that traverse the aesthetic qualities of line, motion and proximity, to sculptures made from found objects. The ingenuity and creativity of this year's budding artists is a credit to their passion and dedication.

Our guest speaker, artist Claire Robertson, opened the exhibition.

Congratulations to Anna Williams and Sam Lucas.

PRESHIL IN-HOUSE FILM FESTIVAL

After a successful PIFF Senior ‘16 show back in early October, PIFF Junior ’16 took place on Monday night 14 November, and what a great night it was.

More than 100 Preshil parents and students, including many of our new families coming into Year 7 in 2017, crammed into the Blackhall library and were treated to a highly entertaining range of films made by talented and imaginative filmmakers from Years 8-10.

There were 18 films in total, ranging from short, two-minute narratives created in MYP Design or Visual Arts/Media classes, to longer productions shot off campus on weekends. We also had two documentaries that told the story of the Year 9 Experience trip to the Northern Territory in Term Two.

All of the filmmakers are to be congratulated on the high quality of their work on show, and for having the courage to enter it into the festival for an audience to witness and enjoy.

To add a little spice to the night we had a range of Academy Award-style nominations for categories including Best Film, Best Actor, Best Post-Production, which had been pre-judged by a panel of teachers and senior Media students. The audience also had their say, adjudging Jeyda Alim’s Year 9 film Control  as their favourite of the night.

After 12 years and countless films, PIFF continues to be a highlight of the year for Preshil’s keen Media students, and we look forward to more great work in 2017.
