Just a reminder if you haven't already done so it is a good idea to submit your VTAC course application before 30 September at a cost of $39. Signing up after this date will be $113. Very late applications from 1 November will be $148.  To apply you will need your IB Number and *VCAA number (*optional) that you received for the GAT.

You will also find the latest course information using the different local state course search websites:

TIMELINE:

NOW

Please note some courses requiring Portfolios and Auditions do close much earlier than other courses and you may need to make a separate application for auditions and selection kits.

SOME EARLY CLOSING DATES:

Please note if you are applying for Fine Arts (University Melbourne), Medicine (Monash) and Photography (NCAT) that they have early closing dates.

The University of Melbourne Fine Arts - Dance, Screenwriting, Film & Television and Animation are now closed. All other Fine Arts, Medicine and Photography close Monday 30 September.

No late applications will be accepted.

For individual dates please visit this VTAC

Link: http://vtac.edu.au/who/early-close.html

For interstate courses please check the individual state admission centres.

30 SEPTEMBER: Submit your timely course applications. You can continue changing your preferences even after you have submitted your application. It is also a good idea to have your SEAS applications submitted. VTAC will provide feedback if necessary if you submit them before the deadline.

11 OCTOBER: Last day to finalise your Scholarships and SEAS applications. I recommend these be prepared well in advance to avoid a last minute rush.

JANUARY 2020: Receive your results and finalise your preferences.  #Early January date to be confirmed but I will be talking more about this in due course.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to send me an email or make an appointment.

Ace Day Jobs Career Videos on Click View

I wanted to make you aware of these 57 videos about different occupations and careers including Spatial Scientist, Zoologist, Astrophysicist, Animator, Game development, Museum Curator, Eco-toxicologist, Human Rights Statistician and Cancer Research to name a few. Ace Day Jobs is a fun series of five minute video episodes of Australians with innovative careers. It's about people who really love their work and how they got into it, often with a few twists and turns on the way.

They are all mostly under 5 mins and very informative. I have also attached below a pdf of the full list and description of each video.

REMINDERS:

Scholarships to Study Abroad

Looking to study abroad but worried about the costs? Good news! There are hundreds of scholarships to study abroad, including general scholarships and more specialised funding schemes. Some are offered by government agencies, some by individual universities, and others by external funding organisations and charitable enterprises.

The Top Universities website is an excellent resource to learn more about what scholarships are on offer.  Students can search for region-specific scholarships or country-specific scholarships.  Students can even search for subject-specific scholarships.

Students are encouraged to browse Top Universities - Study Abroad Scholarships

Pathway Programs 2020

There are many different ways to get to the same destination, and that applies to university too. Sometimes students do not quite meet the entry criteria to go straight into a university course – maybe their ATAR was not high enough, or they did not attain the minimum study score in a prerequisite subject. The encouraging thing is that many universities have recommended pathway courses to degrees they offer. Below are some of these pathway schemes:

Incomplete Diploma? Queensland (QTAC)

"If you do not meet the requirements to be awarded the IB Diploma, we will still give your results a selection rank so long as you have completed a minimum of two IB Diploma Program courses/subjects (at either HL or SL)."

As per the table to follow we will:

  • Sum your marks for between two and six IB Diploma Program courses/subjects. (Marks reported on a scale where: N = no grade, I = very poor and 7 = excellent), then
  • Give the sum a selection rank.
