EVATT Competition

Here are a few of our students at the recent EVATT competition. EVATT is a Model United Nations Security Council diplomacy competition for students in Years 9-12. Our two students were participating in the State Finals at State Parliament! Only 15 out of the 300 teams that entered make it there. Congratulations!

EVATT aims to educate young people about Australia’s place in the world and empower them as active citizens by developing public speaking, negotiation, teamwork, research, and diplomatic skills.

Co-Curricular Report

We have finally arrived at term four, the term of stress, studying and final exams. The days are long but the nights are longer, often spent cramming biological terms and mathematical formulae into our brains. Despite the intense revision and all-nighters, co-curricular on Wednesday afternoons continue to provide all a breath from the chaos and confusion that our final term may bring.

As soon as the term commenced, the committee hit the ground running. First up on our agenda was the JMSS Marketplace, an exhibition of the co-curricular activities on offer in 2020. Whilst some of us were busily greeting and directing guests, others were answering questions and recruiting new students into their Wednesday afternoon classes.

Now, our focus turns to the student suggested co-curricular programs. Towards the end of last term, the student body was open to proposing new activities to be run on Wednesday afternoons in addition to the already-existing programs, and the response we received was overwhelming, and many suggestions are already in the works to be implemented next year.

Along with brand-spanking new programs, the committee is freshening up the face of co-curricular, catering towards promote personal growth in students through engaging with the community. Though we can’t spoil anything now, we hope you’re looking forward to what the future holds for the program in 2020 just as much as we are!
