Sally Cheah - Johnson

Assistant Principal

Dear Parents and Students,

Year 12 Valedictory Dinner:

The Year 12 Valedictory Dinner was held at the Caulfield Racecourse last Monday 14th October.   Year 12 students, parents, staff and Monash University academics celebrated the conclusion of the secondary schooling of our graduating students and also on the commencement of their new learning journey at tertiary level.  It was a fantastic evening and I would like to thank the students, parents, School Councillors, Monash academics and staff of JMSS for their attendance.

The guest of honour for the evening was Mr Gai Thok Chatwea, who was a refugee from South Sudan.  We were privileged by Mr Gai Chatwea’s attendance and his most inspiring speech. Mr Chatwea shared his personal story of how he had overcome many challenges through the war in Sudan to coming to Australia as a refugee. His parents and siblings are still in South Sudan.  His story was most captivating and inspiring. It was a story of how challenges were overcome through determination, perseverance, hard work and endurance. Gai is now for his post-graduate Law degree, Juris Doctorate at Monash University.

I would like to thank Ms Lissett Hernandez  for her remarkable administrative work, and the following student leaders: Francine Machin, Raj Gaddam, Sadhana Sridhar, Ned Callander, Neha Sivakumar, Charles Ly, Isacc Cheng, Ixya Shrestha, Vicky Mach, Lehan Abeyaratne and Amirthaa Pandithan for their outstanding work and contribution to the organization of tonight’s event.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the Parents friends Association for their gift to each of the Year 12 graduates.

Exams:

Students, with the impending exams coming up in the next few weeks, I hope you are planning for your exam revision program.  I urge you to approach your teachers if you need support with regards to revision and preparation for the exams. I would also like to advise you to have adequate rests and sleep during this very important pre-exam time.  You need to organise a sensible home revision timetable so that your health is not compromised by the lack of rest and sleep. Good luck to all students for their exams.

Farewell to Class of 2019:

To all Year 12 students, I must say, with genuine sincerity, I have thoroughly enjoyed working with you in every capacity and it is a privilege to be your Assistant Principal in these last 3 years.  You have been a great cohort of students, and I will miss you.

Academically, in the next few weeks you will be going through what will be one of your most challenging periods.  I wish you all the best for your exams and for your future.

As you venture into the future, I trust that you will follow the path of your dreams and go with your strengths. I do hope that you made the most of the unique opportunities that you were presented with at JMSS.

I am proud of your achievements over the last 3 years, your various successes in a wide range of pursuits from academic achievements, to the cultural pursuits of performance and music through to sport. You have accepted the opportunities provided by the school with enthusiasm and great commitment, and your work and contribution have positively influence the student body as a whole.

I would like to take this opportunity to express my thanks to our School Captains: Francine Machin and Raj Gaddam; and Vice Captains Sadhana Sridhar and Ned Callandar for their outstanding  work and contribution to JMSS. They have shown remarkable leadership and teamwork.

The School Captains, Vice-Captains and House Captains have contributed immensely to JMSS and have led the Student Parliament in achieving its goals and projects.  They are respected and admired by the students and staff of JMSS. They are strong role-models for our students and have contributed enormously through their work to JMSS. My thanks to the following Year 12 House Captains:  Browyn Brooks and Joshua Fernandes (from Blackburn House); Madhu Raghunath and Yasith Peiris (from Doherty House); Dasuni Peiris and Menuka Gunaratne (from Flannery House); and Jeanne Choo and Kelvin Montanaro (from Wood House).  Thank you for your work and support throughout the year.

I hope you will keep in contact with JMSS and your peers through the JMSS Alumni. I wish you the best for your future.

Remember, your education does not end as you depart from JMSS, but continues to flourish as your departure is the beginning of another exciting journey.

Good luck and best wishes.
