Primary News

Welcome back everyone to our new school year

We hope everyone had a lovely break and are refreshed looking forward to a successful learning year in 2020. It has been lovely seeing all our students happy to be back settling into school routine again and sharing stories of their holidays.

Thanks to our parents for supporting our Parent Information Evening last night on a warm evening where our teachers shared important information and expectations about the class for the year ahead.  It is paramount that communication between the classroom teacher and families is clear and transparent as we work in partnership collaboratively to help achieve the best educational outcomes for each student.

This year Melanie Scott has Libby Barnes K-4 and Kevin Turner Yr 5-12 who will coordinate Learning Diversity in their respective areas of the school. They will support students, staff and families with creating individual learning plans, behaviour and support meetings and supervise Teacher Aides and the Before School Program.  Melanie Scott will oversee this and continue to work closely with Libby, Kevin and our student families to ensure all teaching and learning needs are being met. Libby Barnes will also be our student counsellor in Primary whilst Stacey Warren is on maternity leave. Amy Whitten supports us with Occupational Therapy as well in the Primary school.  Our Primary team look forward to working with you to support your child/ren on their continued learning journey at Moama Anglican Grammar this year.

Primary Sport

Sport plays an important part in the holistic development of every child and assists in developing self-worth and belonging, effective communication, teamwork and leadership skills.

In 2020, K-4 students will have one timetabled Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) lessons with Jo Webb and a Sport lesson each week. Year 5 and 6 students will have two PDHPE lessons each week. In addition to these lessons, there will be other opportunities for our students to participate in various sporting activities.

K-6 House Captains will take an active lead at our Primary carnivals as well as running a variety of activities for the Primary School students. We will also have Secondary School students helping with carnivals, aiding with the running of events and supporting our Primary students.

Primary House Carnivals for 2020 are:

  • Year 3-6 Swimming Carnival – Thursday 20 February at The Echuca War Memorial Aquatic Centre
  • Kindergarten to Year 6 Cross Country Carnival – Friday 27 March at Brick Alley Oval
  • Kindergarten to Year 6 Athletics Carnival – Wednesday 27 May at Jack Eddy Oval

As well as school-based events, students will have the opportunity to represent the school at regional and statewide competition through both the Riverina Associated Schools (RAS) and New South Wales Combined Independent Schools Sports Council (CIS) in selected sports. The pathway to RAS level is open to students in Year 3-6 via our School House based carnivals – Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics. The selection process from a RAS carnival to compete at CIS level varies for the different events. After each event, parents are notified if their child has been selected for the next level of competition.

As a member of RAS we are also able to offer our Upper Primary students the opportunity to nominate and try out for the following CIS representative teams: Australian Football, Basketball, Cricket, Diving, Football (Soccer), Golf, Gymnastics, Hockey, Netball, Rugby Union, Softball, Tennis, Touch Football. If this is of interest to you as a family please go to https://cis.nsw.edu.au/home/ for further information.

I  will be the Primary Sport Co-ordinator in 2020 so please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
