VCE Improved Performance Time
This year we have moved to maximise our class time with all students and in particular our VCE students sitting assessments/SACs (School Assessed Coursework) in a common time. So far this has created improved structures for our students and gives them clear timelines on when their assessments will take place.
A big thank you to the students for the way in which they have taken up this initiative and particularly the Senior School team lead by Cathy Drury for the enormous task of organising and implementing this.
Wellbeing and Gratitude Board
During the break over summer, a gratitude board was installed in the main corridor which has given students the opportunity to write down what they are grateful for and to name a positive thing that has happened to them.
The students have taken to this initiative in a very enthusiastic manner with many writing down some very positive comments. The aim is to shift each students’ mindset to the positives in their lives with a view to creating resilience and improved wellbeing.
FISO - Reading Strategy
Framework for Improving Student Outcomes (FISO) is part of the Education State initiatives that enables schools to work together to focus on a particular area in teaching and learning to improve student outcomes.
Lilydale High School is implementing a program that includes all teachers being able to assist students to improve their reading comprehension and understanding of what they are reading. This is done through predicting what the story is, asking questions about the story that is in the background and how the story/text is relevant to them and their learning and lives.
The strategies will be used in all classes across the school, teachers are currently undergoing professional learning to ensure they are skilled to implement this important initiative.
Technical Schools
Across Victoria, ten Technical Schools are being set up to enable students to engage with innovative activities for twenty first century learning. It is not a separate school in which students can enrol and it’s not the old tech school' that many of you may be familiar with, it is a place where students will engage with cutting edge learning with a focus on; STEAM, digital technologies, medical robotics, biotechnology and sustainability.
In Term 3, our Year 8 students will be taking up these opportunities and engaging through the Science curriculum with an online learning module followed by a visit to the Tech School.
