VCE Interim Reports

These will be available on Compass in the week ending Friday 17 March. This will give parents an indication of how their child is performing in each subject.

Three Way Conferences will be held all day on Thursday 16 March and are a great opportunity to meet with your child’s teachers and receive more detailed feedback.

Improved Performance Time (IPT)

This year all VCE students have study periods together on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Periods 5 and 6 and Friday Period 6.

The aim is to run all SACs, examinations, level assemblies, guest speakers and other activities during this time to minimise class disruption. If there are no relevant activities for your child during this time, they are free to go home to study.  However, students are more than welcome to stay at school and study.

VCE SACs

A reminder that if your child misses a School Assessed Coursework (SAC) they must get a medical certificate to enable them to sit the SAC in the next available IPT time slot.

Students will not be granted SAC redemption unless they have a medical certificate or it is a school-approved absence. If there are extenuating circumstances please let us know and we will make a decision based on the VCAA guidelines.

Once a student has been approved for SAC redemption, they will be required to sit the SAC the next available time slot.

The times for SACs are:

Monday - SAC Redemption 3 pm - 4.30 pm

Tuesday - Periods 5 and 6

Thursday - Periods 5 and 6

Friday - Period 6 (one period SAC only)

VCE students and cars

Some students will acquire a car and licence in 2017.  PARKING is available in the Stadium Car Park

NO DRIVER STUDENT MAY TAKE OUT ANOTHER STUDENT IN THEIR CAR DURING SCHOOL HOURS.

Students may obtain their parents’ permission to be driven to and from school in another student’s car.  A written note from both students’ parents must be given to the VCE Coordinators before driving another student or siblings.

Students must inform the VCE Coordinators of their licence plate numbers and car make and colour.

VCAA Examinations

Special Exam Arrangements

Any student who has a medical condition whether physical or mental may be eligible for Special Exam Arrangements.

If you feel your child may qualify, they need to collect the paperwork from the VCE Office.  Documentation from a specialist is essential.

Year 11 Study Skills

Students in Year 11 will be expected to complete Study Skills on Friday 17 March.

The program will run from Periods 1 to 4 and then classes as per normal, Periods 5 and 6.  The program provides strategies on note taking, time management, recall strategies, exam techniques, organization and many more.

Students will be provided with a hot dog lunch and are required at normal school times in full school uniform.

Payment of $30 for Study Skills is due by Friday 10 March on Compass.

Attendance

It is a requirement at Lilydale High School that students attend all timetabled classes so that teaching and learning opportunities can be maximised.

If students have reached their limit for absences from class there is an opportunity for this time to be redeemed. Students can speak to their Year Level Coordinator to discuss making this time up at lunchtime, during afternoon study periods, or after school.

Towards the end of term, it is imperative that students make up classes they have missed.

Absences on COMPASS

Any absences from school must be parent/guardian approved – you can do this through a signed note or you can approve your child’s absences via the Parent Approval button on Compass.

You can also use Compass to view your student’s past absences.

Resilience & Wellbeing in VCE

At Lilydale High School we believe that helping our students to be working at their best is incredibly important. The VCE team and the VCE student leadership team are rolling out some brilliant resilience based activities based around the ideas of mindfulness, empathy and gratitude.

These include;

  • Things that make me smile
  • Motivational Monday
  • Meditation Wednesday
  • Gratitude Wall
  • Random Acts of Kindness
  • Teacher Shout Out
  • Year 12 Breakfast
  • Spot prizes

We are so excited by the postive attitude that we are seeing in the VCE sub school. Keep it up!

Resilience is the ability to cope with unexpected changes and challenges in your life. It's not always possible to prevent stressful or adverse situations, but you can strengthen your capacity to deal with these challenges.

VCE Captains Report

This year has gotten off to a busy start for the VCE cohort!  I think it’s safe to say we’ve all been studying furiously in preparation for the first SACs of the year.  However, it hasn’t all been hard work! Many Year 12s also participated in the Swimming Carnival for the last time on Monday 27 February. We enjoyed dressing up in crazy costumes to represent our house colours and, along with the rest of the school, travelled to Aquanation centre in Ringwood for a day of swimming and bombing competitions.

Another thing the Year 12 students have enjoyed to start the year are the breakfasts that run every Friday morning from 8.00 am. So far we’ve enjoyed a lovely selection of fruit, toasted ham and cheese sandwiches, cereal and the overwhelming crowd favourite - chocolate hot cross buns along with a classroom full of music.

Year 12 students are now mid way through the first term of the most exciting and stressful year of schooling, however the exciting bit has just arrived as we have just got our VCE jumpers. Highly anticipated throughout the whole year level, they have finally arrived and are looking great on the senior students.

Year 11 students also have a lot to look forward to, including the upcoming study skills sessions and the resilience activities being run in Home Groups - both of which will set up students for a year of success

So far 2017 has gone off to a great start for all VCE students, with many memories already being made and lots of excitement already been seen. The year is only going to get better and better with more things to come in the future, such as the athletics carnival, the end of term teachers vs students game that we are all eagerly awaiting and the exciting excursions which give us experiences outside the classroom walls.

2016 Market Day Profits

Due to the incredible work of 2016’s Year 10 and Year 11 Business Management students on Market Day, on behalf of the students we donated their profits to a range of worthy charities. Two of those were State School’s Relief and Edgar’s Mission.

State School’s Relief works to benefit students who struggle financially to purchase uniforms, shoes and textbooks. Edgar’s Mission is a not-for-profit Farm Sanctuary that seeks to create a humane and just world for humans and non-humans.

Edgar’s Mission Farm Sanctuary is set on 153 peaceable acres situated just outside of Lancefield, nestled in the tranquillity of the Macedon Ranges.

Both organisations have been in touch over the last week to offer their gratitude and thanks for the money that our students donated due to their phenomenal work on Market Day. Once again, we would like to offer them our congratulations for such a great effort!

The book donated by Edgar's Mission will be placed in the library for all to enjoy.
