GREATER SHEPPARTON COLLEGE (interim name)

Information Session at Shepparton High School

Thank you to everyone who came out the Greater Shepparton College (interim name) information night on Wednesday evening.  It is great to have community, parent and student feedback into the future values of the Greater Shepparton College (interim name).

GAT

Congratulations to all Year 11 and 12 students who completed the GAT exam on Wednesday 12th June. This is the first stage of the VCE examination process, and is a valuable tool that allows the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority to make predictions about students’ final results for the year. Thank you to the staff for their organisation of a pre-GAT breakfast, to ensure students were able to make it through the three hour exam!

MORRISBY

Year 9 Students undertook the Morrisby: Careers Guidance Assessment on Wednesday 12 June.  The student's unique profile is analysed against more than 600 careers and the closest matches are highlighted for further investigation. They can be 'favourited' by the student or replaced with closer matches. Any qualification discrepancies are shown, and students may change the highest level of qualification they expect. This illustrates to students how important their school qualifications are in achieving their goals and career aspirations.

Students can choose to focus on particular aspects of their career profile: aptitudes, interests, talents and personality. By changing these options, the career suggestions will be updated to reflect the student's preferences. (Reference: Morrisby Website)

We’d like to thank Mary-Ann Linehan for her hard work in organising the Careers Assessment day, and the afternoon of fun, careers based activities that followed.

REPORTING

The next round of Student Performance Average (SPA) reports for students in Years 7-12 has been completed and are available to download from Xuno. We encourage students and parents to study the results in each category for each subject and consider how well they have gone and how they might continue to improve in Semester 2.

SEMESTER 2

The Semester 2 timetable will begin on Monday 17th June. Year Level Team leaders are currently finalising subject changes and students will be issued with their new timetables shortly. This is also a good time for students to refresh their supplies of stationery and binder books and give their locker a good clean up.

EARLY FINISH ON THE LAST DAY OF TERM

Buses will be running an hour earlier on Friday 28th June. School will be finishing a 2.15pm instead of 3.15pm on this day.

UNIFORM POLICY

As the new semester commences, I need to reiterate and clarify our policy on piercings. Fashions come and go but are not deemed as part of school uniform policy.

Aim

The aim of the Student Dress Code is to recognise the positive role of clothing in promoting a sense of individual and collective pride in students, and to promote their identification within the school and community.  Students will wear a school uniform as approved by School Council, on the way to school while at school and on the way home. Students are to wear school uniform on excursions.

Some forms of jewellery pose potential health, safety and school image problems:

  • Small ear studs and/or sleepers worn in the ears are the only piercings that are permitted
  • Due to health and safety issues nose rings/studs, lip rings/studs and eyebrow rings/studs are not permitted. Students with facial piercings can wear small clear plastic studs as this doesn’t compromise their occupational health and safety guidelines.

The policy/expectations have been constantly promoted and advertised regularly over the last two years. Students with piercings are expected to purchase clear plastic studs or remove the piercing before leaving home to attend school.

Consequences of contravening the jewellery policy will be consistent with the school’s current student management and discipline practices, including refusing to comply with a reasonable instruction.

Non-conformance with school uniform and Jewellery policy will result in parents being contacted.
