Principal's Report

I love reading!

I absolutely love reading.  I read for pleasure, I read to learn, I read to challenge my thinking, I read with my children (that's one of my favourites), I read to make it through my day in the world.  I read books, I read magazines, I read online, I read signs, I read situations, I read the room, I read the game, I read people's expressions.... I read.

This week at Kilsyth PS we have been celebrating Book Week and the love of reading.  I have really enjoyed spending time chatting with students about their favourite books, what they have read recently and what they get excited about when they read.

If you have had the opportunity to come into the school this week, you will have seen some amazing doorways - decorated to highlight the nominees for Children's Book Week Awards.  You might have noticed some crazy dress ups.  You will most definitely have heard the buzz as students engaged in a range of activities celebrating books and reading.

I encourage you to talk with you children about reading.  Not just as a skill that they "DO" at school, but something that is an everyday part of our lives, central to so many things.  Something worth talking about.

Transition 2020

Our Transition Program for students entering Foundation in 2020 has begun in earnest.  We have had a few sessions already and it has been wonderful seeing our new students beginning to get to know our school and our passion for learning.

At this point our numbers are tracking well for next year, however I encourage you to talk with friends, family and neighbours about our school and the great things we do here.  If anyone you know has a child who will be starting school next year it would be great if you encouraged them to come along for a tour and check out the options we provide here at KPS!

Improvements to our school environment

This year school council has been working hard to find ways to improve areas of our school environment.  We are starting to see some outcomes of these efforts.  We have a new sign board on Durham Road.  This high profile sign will permanently show our school contact details at the top, with a changeable "bottom half" (Currently promoting our transition program and soon to promote our Community Fair).    Thank you so much to Kristy Way who has led the way in making this happen, and to Richard Henry who tirelessly in the maintenance area around our school.

We have progressed in our planning for our new playgrounds.  We are working with a variety of different companies to develop, plan and cost new playground equipment for our school (including new shade sails) and expect the work to be completed in readiness for the 2020 school year.  Funds raised at our Community Fair in October will make a significant contribution to making this possible.

If you have walked through our grounds recently you will also have noticed the landscaping that has been put in between the Senior School Building and the oval.

I'd like to thank school council for their support and encouragement in making these things possible at our school.  It truly helps our students show EXCELLENCE and RESPECT as they take pride in our school.

Which leads me to...
