Nominations will close Friday, 19 June, 2020, and will be announced on Friday, 24 July.  Winner will receive a personal trophy and $1000 contribution to support their ongoing interests and education.

Platform Youth Arts and Central Geelong Marketing present the second annual Storyfest Writing Competition, open to Geelong residents aged 8 - 18 who have a story to tell. 

In response to COVID-19 and its evolving effect on how we engage as a society, this year we are inviting people to submit stories around the theme of social connection. 

 

What is social connection within our community? We now sit within a rapidly-shifting social environment, so how can we now engage thoughtfully with our peers, care for our communities and show solidarity across borders whilst keeping our distance? How can we soothe our feelings of disconnection or isolation? We want to know what young people think a connected future can (or will) look like.

 

Entrants are invited to respond through any form of creative written expression, including creative writing, poetry, non-fiction and essays.

The competition is split into two age categories:

8 – 12 years

13 – 18 years 

Word Limit (10% +/- leeway applies on all entries):

8 – 12 years: 500 – 1,500 words

13 – 18 years: 1,500 – 3,000 words

Originality

Plot

Characterisation

Language – ages 8-12 will not be judged on grammar or spelling.

Creativity

Prizes:

The following prizes will be awarded to the three finalists in each age category: 

1st prize: $500, plus a one-on-one writing mentorship session with Platform writer in residence.

2nd prize: $250

3rd prize: $100
