SENIOR SCHOOL NEWS

Sarah Bridges

Senior Sub School Manager

As we continue in remote teaching and learning environment, it is good to see students use their initiative to help us feel connected and provide some fun and engaging activities, including an on-line athletics competition and dressing up in Star Wars costumes for May the 4th (I hope the force was with us all!).

VCAA Updates

VCE: changes to Unit 4 study designs have been released and staff are currently undertaking professional development to ensure teaching and assessment reflects these changes.  End of year VCAA exams will reflect these changes. Students have been informed of changes by their teachers.

No definitive dates have been released for GAT or exams. VCAA has advised that all exams will be finished by the end of the calendar year.

Attendance

Students and parents/carers are reminded to notify the Senior Sub School Office regarding any absences.

Wellbeing

We have received lots of positive feedback about our senior students and their resilience and positivity. It is essential we continue to look after ourselves, eating and sleeping well and getting some fresh air and exercise.

If you want to chat or need some extra support, please contact one of us in the Senior Sub School or Student Wellbeing. You might want to check out some of the programs offered by support agencies.

Bite back is a program being promoted by the Black Dog Institute to promote mental health.

https://www.biteback.org.au/.  It offers six weekly challenges to help you improve your mental fitness, increase your happiness, reduce stress, improve your friendships and your focus. It also promotes competitions for vouchers to bands.

Please take care and I look forward to seeing you all back at school soon.

Careers and Pathways

Katina Astles

EAL and Literature Teacher

Senior MIPS and Careers Practitioner

We hope remote learning is getting a little easier now that we're a few weeks in to these new arrangements! As changes to Year 12 arrangements begin to be announced and as we progress through the term, we would like to remind students, parents and carers that the Careers and Pathways Team are here to assist you all. We have set up a Careers and Pathways Google Classroom (code: jvj7fxc) and our Careers Practitioners, Ms Makin and Ms Astles are both happy to talk to students via emails, phone calls or Google Meet.

Innovative Remote Learning

Nicolle Brigden

Teacher

This is Hans Madriaga, my Year 12 student who is currently working during the school day from a tent in his backyard because it's quieter. Such innovation!!

Victorian School of Languages (VSL)

Just a quick update on the situation with VSL / LOTE learning. Many of our students attend school on a Saturday morning to learn a language.

The VSL is running all classes through on-line learning, as are day-schools; the lessons are running at the usual time on a Saturday.

The VSL teachers contacted each class member prior to the commencement of this term in regard to the electronic platform being used and instructions to access those.

If any of our students or their parents/carers have questions about this, please contact the class teacher first (if possible) and then make all enquiries through the VSL head-office.
