MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS

Rebecca Durran

Middle Sub-School Manager

The end of week 4 looks very different this term, but I would like to congratulate all Year 9 and 10 students for continuing to engage positively in online learning during this time.

It is challenging for both staff and students but remember classroom teachers and the College have supports in place to keep us connected during this term.

Set your routine and keep looking after your mental and physical health and well-being. If you need extra support during this time with your health or class work be sure to reach out to your classroom teachers, year level coordinators or myself for extra support.

My remote learning experience - student perspective:

‘With the current challenges Coronavirus has posed on our way of life, transitioning to remote learning was yet another hurdle. When first hearing about the changes that were to take place, I was relieved thinking that this was finally a time where I could distance myself from school work and get a regular sleep in. However, it has turned out to be a time where I have disciplined myself regarding my study habits and become conscious of how I use my time throughout the day. All the while, I came to a realisation that school actually plays a pivotal part in my daily life.

I took being able to go to school for granted, and since starting remote learning I noticed both positive and negative changes in my routine. With online classes I like how you’re able to go at your own pace, as the freedom allows me to work efficiently. But on the contrary it can lead to procrastination taking up a good chunk of the time. I find that being by myself has allowed me to be less distracted which has benefited my concentration, but I also miss the loud, fun classroom environment and interaction with peers. Whilst school is a time to expand your knowledge, it is also a place to build strong relationships and connections, both with teachers and friends.

With this being said I’ve surprisingly come to the conclusion that I miss school!’
