ACTIVITIES

Over the past couple of weeks, the boarders have enjoyed some great activities such as games on the oval including touch football and modified cricket games. We have also been enjoying an afternoon walk to the Botanical Gardens where the boarders have then been able to play on the equipment in the Adventure Playground ( as seen in some of the photos shared here & on our Facebook). Our downtown walks once a week have been a really enjoyable experience with boarders complying so well with the masks and with checking in and out of stores, while getting some essentials and treats for themselves.

Boarders were also able to enjoy the race that stops the nation, The Melbourne Cup by holding our own sweep for the race, with the help of some of the staff and students. A special thank you goes out to Tom Scott who was our special guest that read out each horse as they were drawn to let the boarders know some great facts about their horse.

In Week 7 the boarders were able to celebrate Naidoc, the theme for Naidoc in 2021 is Heal Country! - where it calls for stronger measures to recognise, protect, and maintain all aspects of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and heritage. Each night before dining the boarders participated in a reflection and prayer around the theme of Naidoc.

On Monday the boarders did some artwork on some boomerangs and animal cutouts which they all enjoyed.

Tuesday the girls were able to participate in a weaving workshop with Aunty Pat Simpson and Lisa Siegwalt, while the boys participated in a didgeridoo & artifacts workshop with Luke Whighton

A huge thank you goes out to the boarders, staff, and especially our visitors to make this a really good Naidoc celebration for the Mount Erin Boarding community.
