Exciting news for Senior Secondary Students!
Over the past few months the Senior Secondary staff of next year have exerted a great deal of effort both in their work and personal time to transform Rockhampton North Special School into a registered training organisation. This has meant completing the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, writing the curriculum for the Vet programs and completing the audit process. This by no means was a small task.
Last week we received news that the application and associate curriculum documents were written exceptionally well. This means the school should receive it’s RTO number allowing it to start trading in the coming week.
On behalf of the students and staff of the school we would like to express our sincerest thanks to Troy, Rebecca and Donna for the countless hours of their personal time that they put into this process. The courses that will be offered next year are the Certificate 1 in Agrifood Operations, Certificate 2 in Applied Digital Technologies and the Certificate 1 in Active Volunteering.
We are now in a much stronger place to begin creating strong post school career pathways for all of the students at Rockhampton North Special School.
Arts Showcase
The Walter Reid Cultural Centre came alive Friday night with Rockhampton North Special School's 2021 Arts Showcase. Staff, students and guests were welcomed with a thirteen piece string ensemble comprising of students from Emmaus College and St Ursula’s College. Light refreshments were served throughout the evening as guests were able to view student artwork in a premier regional art gallery. Former principal, Laurelle Allen opened the exhibition with the help of a few keen students. Throughout the day students were able to view the exhibition with their classes, returning that night with the parents / carers and friends. Doors were open during the day to disability services and aged care.
The community response to our Showcase has continued to grow each year, not only in numbers attending but also the amount of people who were excited to be involved in the organisation of the event. I would like to thank our sponsors for their generous donations, PnE Framing, Kev Brown’s Butchery, CQ Mobility, Daniel’s Surgical, Menzie’s Auto Repairs, Frenchville Sports Club, Bella Via Café, Officeworks, Bunnings Warehouse, Berserker Tavern, Jolt Parkhurst.
Many thanks to parents, staff and students who provided delicious slices and cupcakes for our friends who visited, and those who assisted with students throughout the day, transporting artworks, setting up and pulling down at the end of the evening, and those who helped throughout the evening to ensure the night ran smoothly. I am looking forward to an even more successful 2022 Arts Showcase.
