5/6 T

I am so excited to see all of the 5/6's and their beautiful faces tomorrow! Even though we can't say goodbye to remote learning just yet, our transition back to onsite learning is about to begin and we can be excited about that!

I'd like to congratulate all the students and their parents for persevering even though this has been extremely challenging. You should all be very proud of your continued efforts.

Many parents and students may be having mixed emotions about the return to school. If you have any concerns about your child please don't hesitate to contact me so we can discuss the best ways I can support them and you.

See you all soon!

Literacy

We have been focussing on being persuasive and banning the boring in our writing this week. The students have been practicing capturing the readers attention and holding it throughout their arguments in order to successfully get their points across.

In reading, the students have been doing excellent work in their literature circle groups with applying their comprehension strategies and thinking more deeply about the themes and messages within their novels.

Maths

In maths we have been focussing on 3D objects. We have identified their properties and how we can classify them based on their similarities and differences as well as viewing them from different perspectives. The students have been engaged in constructing and drawing various 3D objects and examining how they appear differently when viewed from varying angles. This unit has been a good opportunity for the students to be hands on during their maths lessons.

Last Friday, for the wellbeing day we were able to combine maths and art when we had the students create 'one point perspective artwork'. Below are some photos of what they came up with.

Cybersafety incursion

On Monday we attended a cyber safety incursion led by Marty McGauran. We were lead through a series of interactive quizzes and discussed a whole range of different issues faced by senior primary students in today's online world. Some of the key take aways from the session included:

Online we should live by these principles...

Be Kind

Be Smart

Be Alert

Be Brave

Be Strong

Screen time vs Green time. How do we find the balance between screen time and other hobbies, interests and school work?

He also gave the students some simple but effective way to deal with inappropriate online behaviour that may be directed at them, including:

Don't blame yourself! (if someone targets you online)

Don't reply!

Block and report

Speak with a trusted adult (i.e. parent, teacher, kids helpline)
