Wow, 2021 has been so busy and productive at the NYSF that we can’t believe its September already! We're looking forward to our upcoming programs and hope you are doing well given the many challenges facing everyone at the moment.

We're well under way with bumper applications for our 2022 NYSF Year 12 Program. If you know a keen year 11 student, it is not too late to encourage them to apply! The main Rotary selection interviews are well underway, but after many enquiries we have introduced a late application and selection round so that students affected by the many lockdowns nationally still have a chance to apply.

We are delighted to welcome the Australian Space Agency and the University of Adelaide as new NYSF Partners. Thank you again to our partners and supporters for their support over the last 12 months. We could not have run such an incredible array of programs without you!

Stay safe and all the best,

Dr. Melanie Bagg, CEO

Year 12 Program applications remain open!

To accommodate lockdowns across the country, Year 11 students can still apply for the 2022 NYSF Year 12 Program.

Mental Health Practitioners Initiative

Recently, the Department of Education has introduced the Mental Health Practitioners Initiative.

Mental health practitioners are school-based roles who work flexibly, based on the needs and priorities of their school and students.

The mental health practitioner role provides an additional resource to the school's existing wellbeing team and includes:

  • contributing to whole-school approaches to mental health prevention and promotion
  • provision of direct counselling support to students and other early intervention services
  • coordination of supports for students with more complex needs

Mental health practitioners provide short term intervention for students with mild to moderate mental health needs and liaise with the relevant internal and external services where students need more intensive support. Informed consent is sought before commencing intervention services.
