SCSA Athletics Carnival

The SCSA Athletics Carnival was held at Lakeside Stadium on Friday 17 May in what was a stunning autumn day. Kilbreda’s team of 80 students were raring to go and up for the challenges of the day (except for the hurdle events). All girls competed extremely well and it was really lovely to see the support they offered each other throughout the day. A big thank you to the students that helped out with the triple jump and those that stepped in at the last minute to fill in for other sick/injured athletes.

A special mention to Year 9 student, Siorcha Creaton, who dominated the 800m and 1500m events and in doing so, smashed the school records. Amazing running, Siorcha, and a great reward for all of your training!

SCSA Basketball

On Monday May 27 we headed into MSAC to compete in the Division 1 Basketball competition.

It was a tough day of competition with each team playing five round games prior to the finals.

The Junior A team dominated the competition to convincingly win every round game and they continued this form heading in to the finals as they easily won their semi-final before overcoming CLC 42-25 in the grand final. Hannah Wickstrom named Best Player for the grand final. An amazing day girls, well done!

The Junior B team were up against some stiff opposition and battled hard all day to come away with one win. Congratulations to the girls for their persistence throughout the day.

The Intermediates started very slowly dropping their first two games before playing some excellent basketball to win the next three (including a win over the eventual premiers). They managed to sneak into the finals but unfortunately lost the semi final by two points.

The Seniors played some great basketball to win two of their round games and only dropping the other three by a couple of points. They put a great fight to the top placed Avila in the final but unfortunately went down by a couple of points.

A special mention to Year 12 students Ella Cigognini, Holly Davies, Kelsey Eade and Sienna Kelly who have represented the College in this competition every year since Year 7. A massive thank you for your ongoing contribution to the basketball program.

Cross Country

Congratulations to the students who have committed to the Cross Country Training program this term in the lead up to the SCSA Cross Country on Tuesday 18 June.

We have consistently had 12-18 students each session. We have been running across the road at Mentone Football Oval and have now completed four beach runs down to Parkdale Yacht Club and along the beach track towards Mentone Lifesaving Club. The girls are especially enjoying the morning sessions because after their 3 km run they get to enjoy breakfast.

The SCSA Cross Country squad have been training hard over the last 5 weeks in preparation for the competition next Tuesday. We wish the team all the best for this event.

Good luck to Year 9 student Siorcha Creaton who will compete in the Victorian All Schools Cross Country Championships at Bundoora on Saturday.

Keep up the great work girls.

SESG Sport

SESG Sport has a new name:

SEGAP - South Eastern Girl’s Activities Programme

The name has changed with the idea of incorporating “other activities” into the after school program over the next few years.

Term  3 Sport: Netball and Volleyball. Once again, Juniors will be played on a Thursday (starting in week 3) and the Intermediates on a Tuesday (starting in week 5). The trials for these sports have already started for Junior Netball. The  other teams will start trials after the Year 9 & 10  exams. Encourage your daughters to try out for these teams.

The Intermediate Basketball A and B team played in the Grand Final game on Tuesday 28 May. The A Team played some great team basketball over the last three weeks to be undefeated heading into the final while the B Team started slowly, losing their first two matches but peaking at the right time to convincingly win their 3rd game and book a place in the grand final. The Basketball A team won by three points and the B Team lost in overtime.

The Badminton and Futsal teams did not make the grand final games but they learnt quite a few new skills along the way. There was some great goalkeeping by Dior Larkins for the Futsal team. It was great to see so many Year 9 and 10 students commit to the after school program each week.

The Junior teams had very mixed results over the last three weeks. Unfortunately none of the Junior teams made any grand final games.

House Fun Run

On Tuesday we held the Kilbreda House Fun Run at Mentone Beach. The 3km hilly course was contested by around 50 students and was used as a trial run for next week’s SCSA Cross Country which will be held at Yarra Bend. Congratulations to all girls who put themselves out there and had a go. It was a beautiful day for running and all girls performed very well.

The results were as follows:
