Year 10 Programming, Gaming and Webdesign

It is with sadness in our hearts that we farewell the wonderful group of Year 10 students who undertook the elective PGW (Programming, Gaming and Webdesign). Students worked enthusiastically on many projects including: building their knowledge of the programming language Python and using it to create apps, games and code Microbits; researching and designing infographics; and creating web pages using HTML 5 and CSS. Many students also entered an online web design competition. Special mention to the following students who did so superbly in this competition:

  • Distinction: Isabelle Tricker, Celina Gledhill
  • High Distinction: Bo Johnstone, Kellie Palatino, Olivia Nugara
  • Perfect Score: Evelyn Ferreira, Georgia Poulier, Skye Zhu-Maguire

Year 7 Programming

Year 7s have started their programming journey and have created some excellent projects, coding with the Scratch blocks. Click links to see some examples of our work:

Scratch is a kid-friendly coding site that allows you to create, build and explore the world of coding. My program is an interactive orchestra. It is set on an iPad screen and the sound comes from the icons/apps and their notifications. You press the keys a-h to make a sound. I added a few surprises too. What I liked about this topic was the freedom to be creative. You could do whatever you wanted and really have fun with it.

Year 8 Silent Movie Making

In DTE, we have been talking about and creating silent movies. A silent movie is a short movie that has no sound, only music. Some key features of a silent movie are facial expressions to show emotions as well as body language, title cards to explain what is happening in some parts, good storyline, acting and camera work. My movie was a horror film about 4 girls moving into a house in the forest, one girl gets possessed by a demon and goes after the others. I really enjoyed the acting part on making the silent movie and also the camera work. It was really fun to create with my friends.

Year 8

A silent movie is a film with great expression and dramatic features. There is no talking in the movie but it includes music and sound effects. Some features of a silent movie are dramatic hand and body movements, acting, a clear storyline, music, sound effects and camera work. My movie was a romantic comedy film. The movie included a ball with two people who have just met. They spend the night dancing, followed by a dinner date. Unfortunately, the date doesn’t always go to plan and the man has to fight for a good impression. I really enjoyed the acting and movie making. Being in a group deciding on the props, filming and camerawork really had a positive and fun outcome for me.
