Lasallian Volunteer Program

Recently, graduating student Ignacia Nheu from Leonis House was accepted in her application to be a Lasallian Volunteer with the Boarders at La Salle College, Perth in 2022.  I thank Ms Frarracio and Mr O’Connell who have been working closely with Ignacia to complete the process.  We are very proud of Ignacia for taking this step next year.  She is a highly empathetic and kind individual who will be an exceptional La Salle volunteer in support of the Indigenous students in WA.

What a fine example of a member of our student body living out our College and Lasallian values in action: Virtis in Astra Tendit, service, community and servant leadership.

Ms Frarracio interviewed Ignacia this week:

What will your day-to-day duties include?

I will be working with the Indigenous students who are boarders at the College as an education and emotional support person.  I will also escort them on outings and experiences.

What made you consider doing a year of volunteering in 2022?

I wanted to take a GAP year and thought this would be an excellent opportunity to experience something new and rewarding.  I know that in the future I want to go into a field of work where I can help others, and so felt this pathway was a perfect first step on that journey.

What are you most looking forward to?

A new challenge of living out of home for the first time, a new environment where I can meet and work with new people.  I am looking forward to learning about the students and hearing their stories.

What have you learnt in your time at SJRC that will help you in this year of service?

SJRC has taught me to treat everyone with dignity and respect, and to allow people a safe space to share their story.  I have learnt the value of resilience and empathy.
